Roy Williams speaks on the recent report of the FBI Investigation into college basketball

The college basketball world was rocked in September when the FBI arrested 10 college coaches and athletic company employees.

NBA agent Andy Miller was one of the biggest faces in this investigation which also saw the firing of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and Athletic Director Tom Jurich. Miami, USC, Arizona, Auburn and Oklahoma State were all mentioned in the investigation and on Thursday a U.S. District Court judge in New York declined to dismiss criminal indictments against three assistant coaches.

With more hearings set for later this year, ESPN dropped a potential bombshell on Thursday.

The outlet reported that the corruption goes deeper than just the programs previously mentioned and that as many as three dozen Division I programs could face NCAA sanctions if the FBI info becomes public.

Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported that this could include Hall of Fame coaches as well as at least half of the current top 16 teams listed in the NCAA early bracket reveal.

Thamel’s story included a quote that included lottery picks not being able to play and teams vacating NCAA Tournament appearances and even titles.

On Friday, University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams was asked about the recent report and if he’s worried about it.

Williams offered a simple answer that should make UNC fans feel good.

“(I have) plenty of mixed emotions. I feel very comfortable,” Williams said via Inside Carolina. “When the phone rings at night I am not worried about that. I may worry about a lot of other things, but it ain’t about that.”

The Tar Heels were one of those 16 teams revealed in the bracket reveal and Williams is a Hall of Fame coach, so the signs pointed that UNC could be one of the teams in danger.

This FBI investigation digs deep into AAU basketball, shoe companies, agents and more.

Things likely won’t be revealed for a while and it probably won’t have an impact on the 2018 NCAA Tournament for now, but instead could in the future.

When all of this does come out, it will almost certainly shakeup the sport and could change the landscape of the game.
