Carolina baseball will soon be underway. But first, the expectations set on this years team are pretty high.

The North Carolina baseball season officially begins in nine days and despite losing some talent, they are still among the best in the ACC.

Last year was tough on the Tar Heels. They were one of the best teams in the conference, but fell short in the NCAA tournament, following a quick exit in the regional round.

This year, the expectations are still pretty high on Carolina Baseball. They haven’t been to Omaha in over five years, which is a long drought for them since the turn of the century.

On Tuesday, the ACC coaches voted the Tar Heels as the favorite to win the Coastal division this year.

They received twelve of the fourteen first-place votes. The only other team to receive a vote to win the Coastal was the Virginia Cavaliers.

But on top of that, the Tar Heels received votes to win the entire ACC this year. Florida State was voted as the favorite, but the Tar Heels were second with three votes. Wake Forest also received a vote to win the ACC.

Outside of Virginia, the Tar Heels should be able to handle the Coastal division. Duke will be a good team, but not on the same level as North Carolina.

The Atlantic Division will be a tough challenge for North Carolina in the crossover games.

Florida State will play in Chapel Hill this year, which helps the Tar Heels. But Louisville and Clemson are always perennial powerhouses in baseball.

NC State has also had a nice run of success, including a College World Series trip five years ago.

Either way, winning the ACC will not be an easy task this year. Carolina Baseball is normally good at living up to regular season expectations. Now it is time for them to put it together in the postseason!
