UNC Football Recruiting: Top 2019 running back sets visit date
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program will host one of its top targets in the 2019 class
The next few weeks will be big for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team as they look to add to their 2018 recruiting class.
With National Signing Day approaching, the Tar Heels are still in the running for a few big recruits in the class.
They already have a top 40 class and can move up in the rankings with some big commitments.
But even with a good 2018 class, it’s never too early to look into the future.
The Tar Heels have three hard commits in their 2019 class with athlete Hakeem Beamon, defensive back Jayden Curry and safety Coleman Reich offering their verbals.
One of their big targets is in-state running back Quavaris Crouch who is plays at Harding University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound running back is a five-star recruit and the No. 1 running back in the nation and the No. 22 overall player in the 2019 class according to 247 Sports.
The Tar Heels are targeting Crouch and they received some good news in the form of his recruitment on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Charlotte Observer’s Langston Wertz Jr., Crouch will take an official visit to UNC on Jan. 27. The date is significant because it is Crouch’s birthday.
Here’s what Wertz wrote on the visit for Crouch:
"“He could go to a multitude of places (on his birthday weekend),” Harding High School head football coach Sam Grenier told the Observer, “and Georgia wants him to come, but he made a commitment to his (home state) school. (UNC co-offensive coordinator) Gunter Brewer is one of the best recruiters I’ve met in my life.”"
As Crouch’s high school coach noted, the running back decided to stay in-state and visit the Tar Heels on his big weekend rather than visit Georgia.
It will come a week after he visits Clemson on Jan. 20.
While Crouch is a big target for the Tar Heels, they will have a lot of competition. The running back has offers from Alabama, Michigan, Stanford, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State and Notre Dame among other programs.
The Tar Heels lost out on the top 2018 running back Zamir White who was an in-state recruit.
Landing Crouch would be a significant addition to the class and would certainly move them up nationally in the ranks and in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
