The latest in UNC athletics for January 12 including the Tar Heels big game against Boston College, Mitch Trubisky and more

We are almost to the weekend which means another round of Tar Heels Tidbits, delivering the latest in North Carolina athletics.

It’s been a busy week so for for the Tar Heels.

The men’s basketball team ended its two-game skid with a dominant win over Boston College and is hoping to make it two-straight when they travel to Notre Dame this weekend. UNC lost its last matchup at Notre Dame two years ago.

It was refreshing to see a performance like that from the Tar Heels on Tuesday night, giving us a glimpse of what this team can really do when they are clicking.

Some former Tar Heels in both the NBA and NFL have also made some recent headlines.

Mitchell Trubisky has a new coach as the Bears hired former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. The hiring of Nagy should be a good thing for Trubisky who is a young quarterback entering his second season in 2018.

Harrison Barnes, Wayne Ellington and John Henson all made headlines this week as well in the NBA.

  • The UNC Women’s team earned their second ACC win of the season by beating Clemson on Thursday night. They improved to 2-2 in conference play.

Football

Recruiting

  • This is a big recruiting weekend for the football team with several commits and targets on campus this weekend. The list is highlighted by four-star offensive tackle William Barnes.
  • Garner High School’s Marque Maultsby has been offered a preferred walk-on spot with North Carolina next season. He’s undecided where he will go according to Inside Carolina.
  • UNC commit Nassir Little squared off against the No. 1 player in the country and Duke commit R.J. Barrett on Thursday night. Little finished the game with 24 points and looked great.
  • UNC target Zion Williamson scored 31 points in his first game back.
