Rechon Black, Wendell Moore helping power Concord Cox Mill

Cox Mill continued its hot play as they participated in the Beach Ball Classic boys basketball tournament, held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this week.

UNC signee Rechon “Leaky” Black scored 19 points in Tuesday’s 76-50 win over Fairfield, Ohio as he also added six rebounds, five steals, four assists and three blocks in the big win.

The game was the opener for both teams at the Beach Ball Classic.

Black has been fantastic for Cox Mill all season long as the senior is playing alongside junior and UNC target Wendell Moore.

Moore dropped 29 points in that win over Fairfield and then followed it up with a 32-point performance against Clark two nights later.

Cox Mill suffered its first loss of the tournament on Friday, losing 53-47 to Long Island Lutheran with  both Moore (12 points) and Black (5 points) struggling.

On Saturday, Cox Mill dropped its second-straight as they lost to Dematha 64-63 in the Third Place game. But they didn’t leave the tournament empty handed.

Moore was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 37th annual Beach Ball Classic while Black was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The class of 2019 recruit Moore finished with three of the top nine scoring performances of the tournament, dropping 32, 29 and 24 points in three of his four games.

With Black signed to the Tar Heels 2018 class, Moore is a big target in 2019. The Tar Heels would love to add him as their center piece and a land a five-star wing.
