2017 ACC Football: Coastal Division Power Rankings week 12
Doctor Doom
For a recap of the game against Western Carolina, click here.
As brilliant as he is evil, Doctor Doom has been the thorn in the side of the Fantastic Four ever since they were affected by the radiation from that comet granting them their powers.
Hailing from the fictional land of Latveria, Doctor Doom is a tyrant who rules with a literal iron fist (he is covered in metal) and it takes the work of four superhumans to bring him down.
So who are the Fantastic Four of the UNC Tar Heels? Let’s take them one by one.
Mr. Fantastic: Anthony Ratliff-Williams.
Ratliff-Williams has been everything for the Tar Heels this season. Not only does he lead the Tar Heels in receiving yards, but he also leads the nation in kick return yards. He also can throw for a score. As bad as things have been this season they would be worse if not for Ratliff-Williams.
The Invisible Woman: Nathan Elliott.
Who else than the man who was the team’s third-string quarterback for most of the season. Elliott had to be invisible for Larry Fedora to not see that the Junior quarterback was the team’s best starter. Elliott has seven touchdowns thrown in two-plus games, just one shy of Chazz Surratt in seven games.
The Human Torch: Michael Carter.
Jordan Brown may lead the team in rushing but it is Carter who has been the faster more impressive back. Carter is averaging twice as many touchdowns and a yard and a half more per carry on 41 fewer touches than Brown. Carter is fast and the Tar Heels lightning.
The Thing: UNC’s Defense.
It didn’t feel right to single out just one player here. Whether it be Jalen Dalton tackling a back for a loss, Jonathan Smith scooping up a fumble, or MJ Stewart knocking down a would-be touchdown, the defense has been a rock this season for the Tar Heels.
UNC will need the whole team to step up and be fantastic this week if they want to make it three wins in a row and end the season giving NC State a loss in another Tobacco Road Rivalry game.
