Back When

There is no doubt that David Cutcliffe misses back when. See, back when his Blue Devils were 4-0 with a win over their rivals and a bowl game in their future. Back when was a good time for Duke.

Now is not so much. Duke is not only on the aforementioned losing streak but their latest loss was one to Army. Army is pretty good this season but Duke probably still saw this as a win on their schedule. Instead, it was just another loss for the team from Durham.

Despite only passing for 42 yards, Army led Duke 21-10 at halftime. A Blue Devils defense that had been solid against the run gave up 226 rushing yards on 52 attempts. In other words, Army said they were going to run the ball and Duke couldn’t stop it.

Duke also got another bad game from sophomore quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones, like many of Duke’s players, probably also misses back when, because now has not been good for the returning starter.

For the fifth time this season, Jones failed to throw a touchdown pass. He also threw for under 200 yards also for the fifth time. The only positive was that he completed 65 percent of his passes after completing just 43.6 percent of his passes the past two games.

Duke won’t have long to focus on how it was back when, as they take on Georgia Tech this weekend. Another loss would guarantee a second straight losing season for the Blue Devils.
