Hard Times

The Yellow Jackets have surely fallen on hard times after losing to Virginia this past weekend. The loss marked the third loss in Georgia Tech’s last four games and second in a row.

Georgia Tech did not look like themselves this season against the Cavaliers as Taquon Marshall threw the ball 22 times. In six previous games this season, Marshall had attempted only 65 total passes.

Not only did Marshall throw it a lot (his previous high was 13), he didn’t complete it a lot. Marshall finished with six completions and two interceptions. The only positive was that Marshall averaged nearly 30 yards a completion, so when he and the receiver connected it was for a big gain.

Despite the bad passing day, Marshall did lead a rushing attack that finished with 220 rushing yards on the day. Marshall finished with 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns, which gave him three scores for the game.

It was a good thing Marshall had a big game as KirVonte Benson did not. The sophomore running back finished with 63 yards, his third-lowest total of the season, though he did score a touchdown for the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech is now sitting two wins shy of bowl eligibility with three games to go. Two of those games are at home but come against teams that are 16-2 on the season. The first of those games comes this weekend when the Yellow Jackets welcome in Virginia Tech.

The Hokies are coming off a loss. The last time Georgia Tech faced a rank team coming off a loss was Clemson, and that game ended quite poorly for the Yellow Jackets.
