Rain is a Good Thing

Rain as the song says can be a good thing. Rain makes the crops grow. It helps wash away the muck of life. It can also change the course of a football game.

The Hurricanes were struggling against the Yellow Jackets in Miami when the rain started falling. All of a sudden, things changed.

The Hurricanes defense, which had allowed 24 points through most of three quarters, didn’t allow another point for the last 20 minutes of the ball game.

Malik Rosier who was 10-of-19 going into that stretch went 13-of-18 to finish the game. That included going 7-for-9 on the final game-winning drive that started at the Miami eight-yard line and ended on the Georgia Tech seven yard line with four seconds remaining.

The Hurricanes also got a big game from Travis Homer who finished with 170 yards and a touchdown. Homer was replacing Mark Walton, who was lost for the season, and shows just how loaded the Canes are at running back.

Sometimes you need a little rain to make things work. Miami will try to continue to make things work when they welcome in Syracuse this week. The Orange are coming off an upset of then second-ranked Clemson and would love to win a second straight game against a top ten opponent.

Well that does it for this round of rankings. Before I sign off here is how I rank the entire ACC after one week (Coastal teams in bold, rankings movement in parentheses):

  1. Clemson Tigers (0)
  2. Miami Hurricanes (0)
  3. NC State Wolfpack (+1)
  4. Virginia Tech Hokies (-1)
  5. Virginia Cavaliers (+2)
  6. Florida State Seminoles (+2)
  7. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-2)
  8. Louisville Cardinals (-2)
  9. Syracuse Orange (+2)
  10. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-1)
  11. Boston College Eagles (+1)
  12. Duke Blue Devils (-2)
  13. Pittsburgh Panthers (0)
  14. North Carolina Tar Heels (0)

Anyways enjoy the week and get rested up for week eight. Upsets are just part of the game and week eight may bring some more.
