2017 ACC Football: Coastal Division Power Rankings week 7
Kick the Dust Up
Coach David Cutcliffe is probably trying to figure out how to kick up the dust on a team that was 4-0 and is now 0-3 on the season.
Duke lost their third straight game, two of which have been at home when they fell to a beatable Florida State team. Duke has never beaten the Seminoles, and much like Clemson in basketball against UNC, can’t even do it when the other team is down.
Coach Cutcliffe can look beyond his defense, which did hold Florida State to only 17 points and forced two turnovers. However, they did allow the Seminoles to accumulate 425 yards and 23 first downs.
No, it seems the offense is the culprit this week. The team finished with a combined 111 rushing yards, though Brittain Brown and Shaun Wilson both finished with over five yards a carry.
Daniel Jones did complete 63 percent of his passes and threw for over 200 yards, both highs during this three-game stretch. However, he also threw for no touchdowns for the third time this season, all at home.
So what does Coach Cutcliffe have to do to get this team playing the way it did when they were 4-0 and on the brim of the top 25? Well probably catch a break in the schedule.
Luckily for Duke, they get just that as Pitt comes to town this week. Pitt is one of two winless ACC Coastal teams and the Blue Devils only conference win just happened to come against the other one.
