Marcus Paige ties it all up..

As part of the annual event, the basketball team splits up into the blue and white teams for the scrimmage game.

This is usually one of the biggest moments of the whole evening and really gives fans a look at the upcoming team.

In 2013, Marcus Paige was entering his sophomore year at UNC and participated in his second Late Night With Roy event.

Little did he know he would make a play that would be a highlight of the night.

Paige was introduced to the crowd to get the night going and decided to do the robot dance, much to the crowds excitement. He even participated in some of the dances with other members of the basketball team.

But in the scrimmage, Paige struggled to score. That is until the final minute.

With Paige’s team trailing by 7 late in the 20-minute scrimmage, he scored his first points of the game on a three-pointer. Then with his team down just two and little time on the clock, he drove down the court and drilled a floater to tie the game at 50.

That would be the final points of the night as the scrimmage ended but it was one heck of a way to do it.

As Turner Walston describes in his recap here, Paige called a timeout before his team’s final possession and took control like a leader.

Paige would eventually go on to be a leader for this team in his four years at UNC, reaching the national championship game as a senior.
