UNC remembers Stuart Scott

The world lost a great man on January 5, 2015 when it was announced that Stuart Scott lost his battle with cancer.

Scott was a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and made a career in broadcasting. He joined ESPN in 1993 and stayed there until his death.

The on-air personality coined several catch phrases over the years with the biggest one being “BOO YA.”

He was a regular host of Late Night With Roy before his passing in 2015, energizing the crowd and helping tip off the basketball season unofficially.

Following his passing, the Carolina family mourned. At the 2015 Late Night With Roy, the event honored Scott in numerous ways.

First, Scott’s daughters Taelor and Sydni received the Tar Heel Trailblazer award on behalf of their father. The daughers spoke about what the award meant to them and how the event was one of the things Stuart looked forward to most every year.

Then the Mu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, who Scott was a member of, honored their brother with a special step routine.

Former co-worker and friend Sage Steele was named an honorary Tar Heel for the event and was there to memorialize Scott. Watch as she tells a good story about the time Scott and Steele had a bet on the UNC-Indiana game from 2012.
