The Waiting
According to Mr Petty, “the waiting is the hardest part”. Virginia Tech probably understands that as well as anybody.
After waiting nearly 11 months for another shot at Clemson and losing again, they will have to wait again to have their next chance at a top ranked team.
The key is what they do while waiting, and it seems for the Hokies that means business as usual. Against Boston College, the Hokies had no problem doing to the Eagles what they had been doing to every other team all season.
This meant freshman quarterback Josh Jackson was airing it out. Jackson finished with 322 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-33 passing.
It meant the defense was making stops. The Hokies held Boston College to a miniscule 2-of-15 on third down.
But the waiting also came with a few new surprises. Travon McMillian had a big game, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown. His 5.2 yards per carry helped raise an otherwise abysmal rushing game for the Hokies. Without the work of McMillian, they would’ve finished with just .7 yards per carry.
They also got a big game out of wide receiver Sean Savoy. Savoy finished with nine receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown. With Phillips being a senior, it was good to see Jackson find a receiver to grow with.
Of course, for the time being, the Hokies will have to wait to play their next game. Virginia Tech is on bye this week as they rest up to take on an injury ridden Tar Heels team the following Saturday.
