Don’t Do Me Like That

This is really a request to Coach Pat Narduzzi from his two starting quarterbacks. Since the season started, Narduzzi has been playing musical quarterbacks with Max Browne and Ben Dinucci. The result has been an abysmal two-win season, with zero wins in the ACC.

As much flack as I give Larry Fedora, he has at least picked a signal caller and stuck with him. Why? Because Fedora probably has learned that two starting quarterbacks equals zero starting quarterbacks.

It is hard for a quarterback to truly get comfortable when he is constantly looking over his shoulder, worrying if the next mistake he makes will get him yanked for the other guy. It also makes it hard to get into a rhythm with receivers when they’re splitting reps and possessions.

Of course, neither Browne nor Dinucci have done anything to help themselves out on this. After a great game against Rice, Browne was 15-for-22 for 161 yards and no touchdowns against Syracuse.

Dinucci came in to relieve him, and although he was 6-of-10, he averaged a measly 5.5 yards per attempt. Regardless, Narduzzi needs to settle on a quarterback and ride him out for the season. I would pick Dinucci, for no other reason than Browne is a senior.

That is a decision, though, that Narduzzi won’t have to make just yet, after Browne suffered an injury against Syracuse. If he is lucky, Dinucci will solidify the job by the time Browne gets back.

Either way, Pitt is in for a tough matchup this week when they welcome in Bradley Chubb and NC State.
