Carry On

Speaking of those Blue Devils, this was probably the words Coach Cutcliffe spoke after his team was completely outplayed by Miami this past Friday.

The Blue Devils have had a good season so far this year and should not be too discouraged by the beat down. Duke outgained the Hurricanes on the ground while picking up more first downs and controlling the ball longer than Miami, despite losing by 26 points.

Duke also held Mark Walton, who was averaging 13 yards per carry, to just 51 yards. The Hurricanes also were a poor 4-for-12 on third downs.

The Blue Devils got another interception from Byron Fields Jr., though unlike last week it wasn’t returned for a game-sealing touchdown.

However, despite the strong play from the run defense, the pass defense was not as stellar. The Blue Devils gave up 270 passing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Duke quarterback Daniel Jones had his worst game of the season.

Jones finished the game 21-of-41 for 166 yards and an interception. He also had a fumble. This was the third straight game where Jones failed to complete 60 percent of his passes and second time in three contests he failed to throw for a score.

The Blue Devils will need to carry on quickly as they turn around and travel to Virginia. The Cavaliers are coming off a bye and this will be the first time Duke plays a game out of the state of North Carolina this season.
