Too Much of a Good Thing

You can never have too much of a good thing and as Alan Jackson would say Virginia Tech has a good thing going on.

The Hokies are 4-0 and ranked in the top 15 nationally. This all just a year after going 10-4 and winning the Coastal and they are doing it this year despite losing their signal caller and top receivers from last season.

Virginia Tech continues to get a huge season out of Josh Jackson. Jackson went 20-of-30 for 298 yards and three touchdowns in the Hokies 38-0 win over Old Dominion. Jackson now has 11 touchdowns against just one interception with a 64.7 completion percentage.

Jackson is getting a lot of this done by throwing to Cam Phillips.

Phillips a week after a record-setting performance against ECU, came back to earth a bit but still finished with seven receptions for 106 yards.

Virginia Tech is also got a good thing in their defense which shut out Old Dominion holding the Monarchs to a measly 149 yards of total offense.

The Hokies will really find out just how good things are this week though when they welcome in Clemson.

The Tigers are also 4-0 and are 2-0 against ranked teams this season.

Well that does it for this round of rankings. Before I sign off here is how I rank the entire ACC after one week (Coastal teams in bold, rankings movement in parentheses):

  1. Clemson Tigers (0)
  2. Virginia Tech Hokies (0)
  3. Louisville Cardinals (+1)
  4. Duke Blue Devils (+1)
  5. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (+3)
  6. NC State Wolfpack (+3)
  7. Miami Hurricanes (0)
  8. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-3)
  9. Virginia Cavaliers (+1)
  10. Florida State Seminoles (-7)
  11. Syracuse Orange (0)
  12. North Carolina Tar Heels (0)
  13. Boston College Eagles (+1)
  14. Pittsburgh Panthers (-1)

Some big conference wins led to some big moves and one big drop this week. Still there is a lot to be settled on the playing field.

Anyways enjoy the week and get rested up for week five. The season still has a lot of football left.
