UNC in NFL: Tracking Tar Heels performances in Week 2
By Grant Hughes
Other Noteworthy Performances.
Robert Quinn: Defensive End, Los Angeles Rams.
After posting a sack last week, Quinn kept up his pass rushing ways after posting two tackles and a half of a sack this week. Quinn looks like he’s getting back to 2013 form, where he led the NFC in sacks with 19.
Giovani Bernard: Running Back, Cincinatti Bengals.
Bernard didn’t do much against the Texans in a game where defense set the tone. Bernard rushed 5 times for 10 yards and caught 2 balls for 16 yards. Gio continues to play sparingly in a crowded backfield, but here’s an interesting stat on the Tar Heel great:
Mack Hollins: Wide Receiver, Philadelphia Eagles.
After posting a dud on offense in Week One, Mack Hollins hauled in all 3 of his targets for 32 yards this week. Hollins stepped up in a good time for the Eagles and looks to earn more playtime in the future. More snaps and looks will come this way if he continues to make tough catches like this one:
Zach Brown: Linebacker, Washington Redskins.
Zach Brown continues to be one of Free Agency’s biggest steals thus far into the season. The stud linebacker posted 10 total tackles this week, bringing his season total to 22. Averaging 11 tackles a game is impressive and people are taking notice.
Pro Football Focus gave Brown a Run Defense grade of 90.5, tops among linebackers this week.
This highlight against the Rams shows why his run defense grade is so high:
Da’Norris Searcy: Safety, Tennessee Titans.
Last week we covered that the loss of Jonathan Cyprien for the Titans would only lead to good things for Searcy. After earning the start this past week Searcy posted three tackles and picked off a Blake Bortles pass in a win over the Jaguars.
Tre Boston: Safety, Los Angeles Chargers.
Boston continues to show that the Panthers made a mistake in cutting him. Boston posted 9 tackles this week against the Chargers.
Though he did give up a big gain along the sideline to DeVante Parker, Boston has been solid in run defense. Boston has been enjoying his time out west and even caught up with NFL Total Access for a cool interview.
