UNC in the NFL: Will Mitch Trubisky see the field in Week 3?
By Alec Lasley
After an 0-2 start for the Chicago Bears and the poor play from Mike Glennon, will Mitch Trubisky be in for week three action?
Going from a near upset victory over the reigning NFC Champions Atlanta Falcons in week 1, the Bears went on the road and got blown out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 2.
Mike Glennon, who has started both of the first two games, can surely feel the heat from everyone outside of the organization.
So far, offseason and regular season combined, we have already seen two rookie quarterbacks named starters for their respective teams and many ask the question, when will Mitch Trubisky see his time on the field?
A reporter asked coach John Fox after the game if he would think about playing Trubisky next week, and his answer was simply, “No”.
First off, Mike Glennon isn’t leading the Bears to a Super Bowl, or even a playoff appearance, so why is he still getting all of the live action, even in blowouts?
Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson, who took over for Tom Savage in week one, has proved to be an asset to the Texans, after leading them to a week 2 win on the road against the Bengals in his first career start.
Yes, he made some rookie mistakes and struggled at times, but his overall talent is enough to make plays out of nothing, something Tom Savage couldn’t do.
The same thing can be said for Mitch Trubisky, if given the opportunity.
On Monday morning Fox reiterated his decision to stick with Glennon while appearing on a radio show in Chicago:
Let’s look at Mike Glennon’s quarterback stats and how they rank amongst other NFL quarterbacks.
- Completion percentage: 67.1 percent (10th out of 33)
- Yards per attempt: 6.05 yards (25th out of 33)
- Longest pass completion: 22 yards (34th out of 38)
- Rating: 81.2 (20th out of 33)
- Total QBR: 32.4 (26th out of 32)
There is a reason the Bears are struggling to score points and complete drives, and that starts with Mike Glennon. Though the wide-receivers are dropping balls, especially on crucial downs, Glennon is not the quarterback of the future and he should not be the quarterback now.

Though we may have to wait another week to see Mitch Trubisky, the way the Bears season is going, we should see him sooner rather than later, but as long as Fox is on the sidelines, his time could be a ways away.
