2017 ACC Football: Coastal Division Power Rankings week 3
Nobody But Me
“Nobody but me” is what Cam Phillips is saying after he set a Virginia Tech record for catches in a game. The senior receiver finished the day with 14 catches for 189 yards and three scores.
His quarterback, Josh Jackson, probably also feels there is no one but Phillips as they have connected for 27 of the teams 56 total pass receptions this season.
Jackson also had a good with 372 passing yards and five touchdowns to help the Hokies comeback from down 17-7 to score 57 unanswered points on their way to a 64-17 win.
Virginia Tech’s comeback was also aided by Travon McMillian who finished with 72 rushing yards, his most in a game since October of last year. The defense also looked good holding the Pirates to less than 300 total yards and forcing three turnovers in the eventual route.
Virginia Tech will look to go 4-0 for the first time since 2011, when they went 11-3 and won the ACC Coastal, when they take on Old Dominion this week.
The Monarchs are coming off a home blowout to UNC and are probably in for a ride.
Well that does it for this round of rankings. Before I sign off here is how I rank the entire ACC after one week (Coastal teams in bold, rankings movement in parentheses):
- Clemson Tigers (0)
- Virginia Tech Hokies (+1)
- Florida State Seminoles (-1)
- Louisville Cardinals (+1)
- Duke Blue Devils (+2)
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+2)
- Miami Hurricanes (-2)
- Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-2)
- NC State Wolfpack (0)
- Virginia Cavaliers (+2)
- Syracuse Orange (0)
- North Carolina Tar Heels (+1)
- Pittsburgh Panthers (-3)
- Boston College Eagles (0)
Much like last week, not a lot of movement as teams are starting to find their niche. Of course there is still a ton of football to play especially with very few conference games having happened.
Anyways enjoy the week and get rested up for week four. The season can only get more better.
