Ol Red

I know that Virginia does not wear the color red and neither does UConn, the team Virginia beat, but go with me here.

Ol Red is a song about a dog (insert country joke here). In the song, the protagonist escapes prison by outwitting the dog. Virginia won the game against UConn by outplaying the dog (Huskies are a type of dog).

A stretch I know, but nothing is perfect.

Regardless of all that Virginia is 2-1 for the first time since 2014. They have also already matched their win total for all of last season. They have done this behind the strong arm of their quarterback Kurt Benkert.

Benkert ranks third in the ACC in passing yards and touchdowns passes thrown. In the game against the Huskies, he threw for 455 yards and three touchdowns. The 455 passing yards is a Virginia record.

None of this means that Virginia is going to make a bowl for the first time since 2011.

Unfortunately, in 2014, the team could only muster three more wins on the season.

But don’t get all red in the face yet Cavalier fans. This week Virginia travels to face Boise State in Idaho. A win there and Hoos could be feeling blue but at that stadium thats a good thing.
