UNC in NFL: Tracking the Tar Heels in Week One
By Grant Hughes
Tre Boston: Safety, Los Angeles Chargers.
Boston got the start and posted three tackles during his first game as a Charger.
Connor Barth: Place Kicker, Chicago Bears.
Barth attempted one field goal in Week One and nailed a 54 yarder. The former UNC kicker also went 2/2 on extra points and placed 3/4 kickoffs out of the end zone for touchbacks.
Sylvester Williams: Defensive Tackle, Tennessee Titans.
Williams only notched 14 snaps in Week One despite signing a big contract with the Titans this offseason. In those limited snaps he recorded two tackles.
Da’Norris Searcy: Safety, Tennessee Titans.
Searcy only posted three tackles in the opener but an injury to teammate Jonathan Cyprien opens the door for more playing time. Expect Searcy to post around 7-10 tackles a game in Cyprien’s stead.
Giovani Bernard: Running Back, Cincinatti Bengals.
Bernard continues to be slept on. Despite being a playmaker in his limited role, the Bengals refuse to give him the spotlight. After drafting Jeremy Hill in 2014 and Joe Mixon this past year, Bernard continues to outshine both. In Week One Bernard rushed the ball 7 times for 40 yards and caught one ball for 39 yards. His 40 rushing yards were more than Hill and Mixon had combined (35) on 12 carries.
Eric Ebron: Tight End, Detroit Lions.
Ebron had a quiet first game to the disdain of fans and fantasy owners. After posting a career-high 711 yards last season, Ebron caught only two balls for 9 yards in the opener. An upset fantasy owner sent a now deleted tweet to Ebron and received quite a response:
