UNC in NFL: Tracking the Tar Heels in Week One
By Grant Hughes
Robert Quinn: Defensive End, Los Angeles Rams.
In Week 1 the Indianapolis Colts were all out of Luck, literally and figuratively, against the LA Rams. The Rams put up the best defensive showing of the week against the Scott Tolzein led Colts.
This was in large part due to a dominant showing by defensive end Robert Quinn.
Quinn notched one sack along with two tackles for loss in total. This all came without star pass rusher and fellow lineman Aaron Donald, who sat this week due to a contract holdout.
The Rams shocked the NFL landscape by setting the tone early on defense and beating the Colts 46-9. On the day, the LA’s defense picked two passes and returned them to pay dirt.
Quinn looks to be once again part of a dominant defense and hopefully in line for a return to dominance himself.
After posting a career high 19 sacks in 2013 and being named a Pro Bowl Captain, Quinn has only been able to sack the quarterback 19.5 times in the three seasons since. This includes a career low four sacks last season.
After missing only one game in his first four years, Quinn has missed 15 in his last two seasons. Robert Quinn being able to remain healthy and on the field in 2017 will be huge for his statistical output and the Rams’ season as a whole.
Quinn was just one of a few former Tar Heel defensive linemen to have a big game, however…
