The 2017 UNC title team received a special gift from Michael Jordan and it’s pretty damn awesome

Playing for the University of North Carolina has its perks for players.

It’s where Michael Jordan played and helped lead the Tar Heels to the 1982 national championship over Georgetown, one of six titles for the program.

The latest came in 2017 and was just a little sweeter than the others.

UNC beat Gonzaga back in April of 2017 to win their sixth national championship, overcoming a heartbreaking loss to Villanova the season before. For those Tar Heels players, redemption was finally had.

On Saturday, the school is honoring all six national championship teams during halftime of the UNC-Louisville football game in Kenan Memorial Stadium.

The halftime ceremony will include the 2017 receiving their championship rings and being honored in front of the packed house.

But before that, the team received a special present from Michael Jordan himself.

Jordan Brand created custom Air Jordan VI’s in a white and Carolina Blue colorway, gifting them to the players before Saturday’s celebration.

Check out the shoes below:

According to the Carolina Basketball Twitter account, only 25 pairs were made given to the 2017 team including staff.

The shoes have the years of the sixth national championships on them, truly making them a special shoe for the team to have.

Here’s their reaction to seeing them:

As you can see, they are pretty excited to have them and for good reason. For as long as they live they can show off the shoes knowing they are just one of 25 people to have them.

This is just the latest custom retro Air Jordan for the UNC basketball program. We’ve seen countless ones over the years dating back to the 90s.

Jordan Brand also releases team edition shoes each year with the team receiving the Air Jordan 31 last season.
