9. Dick Crum

Dick Crum may not be a household name like the rest, but he is the all-time winningest football coach in program history.

Crum followed in the footsteps of coach Bill Dooley in 1978, and like Brown, it did not take him much time to find some success. He led North Carolina to an 11-1 season in 1980, which was his third season on the job.

While Crum was a great coach in his own right, he’s also well-known for the names he put in the NFL. None of those names can compare to the great Lawrence Taylor, one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game.

Crum spent ten years at UNC, amassing a 72-41-3 record in his time. To this day, Crum remains the winningest coach in school history. He also took the Heels to six bowl games, finishing with a 4-2 record in those games.

Crum went on to win ACC Coach of the Year in 1980. He also led the team to an ACC title the same year, the last one the football team has won.
