1. Anson Dorrance

It is tough for the coaches behind Anson Dorrance, because the greatness of Dorrance is matched by no other college coach in any sport.

Dorrance, the long-time women’s soccer coach, has obliterated records in his career.

At North Carolina, Dorrance racked up an incredible 642–33–22 record. Dorrance coached 34 seasons at UNC, and only lost 33 games! That is one of the most incredible college stat you will come across.

His teams went undefeated eleven different times, including losing three games in a nine-year stretch.  But there is one stat that blows everybody else out of the water.

Anson Dorrance coached the Tar Heels women’s soccer team to 21 national championships.

That’s right, TWENTY-ONE national titles. He won nine straight national titles at one point.

You thought Geno Auriemma was dominant, but he has nothing on Dorrance.

UNC basketball coach Roy Williams recently appeared on the Carolina Insider Podcast, and he had high praise for the longtime coach.

"“Anson (Dorrance) is the best…” “I think I learn something from every coach. When I talk to Anson, I learn something every time. He’ll come into my office — and he sat down for 30 minutes. When he left, I wrote three things down that I thought were really impressive.”"

Dorrance also displayed his dominance on a world stage, leading the 1991 US women’s national team to a World Cup victory.

Dorrance won at all levels, and with his dominance at Carolina, he finds himself atop the list of all the great coaches in North Carolina history.
