No. 2: Mike Voight (1973-76)

Mike Voight is one of the best running backs to ever play for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He finished his college career with 3,172 yards in addition to three 1,000-yard seasons. He rushed for 1,033 yards in 1974, 1,250 yards in 1975 and 1,407 yards in 1976.

Voight started as a running back in each of his three seasons. As a freshman, he tallied 281 rushing yards. He ranks third all-time at UNC in touchdowns by a running back (42), third in 1,000-yard season rushers (1,407 yards), and fifth all-time at UNC in points scored (254).

Currently, Voight sits in second place in all-time rushing yards by a running back (4,061), ranks second for most rushing attempts at UNC (826) and is tied for most games over 200 yards rushing along with Natrone Means and Amos Lawrence.

No. 1: Amos Lawrence (1977-80)

Amos Lawrence is the best running back to ever play at North Carolina. He is the only UNC running back to run for 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.

Lawrence holds the all-time rushing yards record at UNC with 4,391 yards and the record for most rushing attempts with 881.

He is tied for most games over 200 yards rushing with Natrone Means and Mike Voight. He ranks third all-time at UNC with most career all-purpose yards (4,928).

Lawrence also ranks in the top 10 in several other rushing categories.
