One year after leaving SMU, Larry Brown is back in the coaching ranks. What is he doing and what does this mean for the former Tar Heel?

If there’s anyone who truly doesn’t know time, it’s Larry Brown. And even if he does, he refuses to let it slow him down.

The seemingly ageless Brown was named head coach of the USA East Coast team on June 5th. The team which consists only of college students, will have training camp August 5th and 6th and then travel to Spain for the competition.

The team, which has four ACC players on it, will play other national teams from Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, and Senegal.

Obviously, this is just another feather in the hat for the former North Carolina point guard and assistant coach.

Brown is one of the most decorated coaches of all time and even at the age of 76 he is showing no signs of slowing down. Brown’s latest stop comes just a year after he stepped down as head coach at SMU.

Before his tenure there, Brown had coached seven different NBA teams including the Detroit Pistons, who he led to an NBA Championship in 2004.

He also coached at Kansas where he won a National Championship in 1988. Brown is the only head coach to ever win a national championship in college basketball and an NBA Championship.

Aside from his stints in college and the NBA, he also spent time in the ABA as well.

Over the course of his career, Brown has won 1,593 games between the college and professional levels and has been named Coach of the Year five times. He is a member of both the College Basketball Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame.

He has also been a part of three Olympic teams, winning two gold medals and a bronze.

This latest stop will afford some college kids the opportunity to learn basketball from a man who coached Allen Iverson and kept Rasheed Wallace in check (well, sort of).

The things they learn from Brown will most definitely make them better players; hopefully just not against UNC.
