UNC Basketball: New York Knicks showing interest in Justin Jackson
Justin Jackson continues his tour of the NBA landscape, working out for the New York Knicks on Tuesday
Since announcing his decision to remain in the NBA Draft and forego his final season of eligibility at North Carolina, Justin Jackson has been busy.
He’s been to a number of cities over the past month, working out for NBA scouts and meeting with executives. And by all accounts, things seem to be going well for the junior wing who’s projected as a mid-first round selection and possible lottery pick.
"“It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed it. Going to all of these different cities, meeting all these different organizations,” Jackson told ESPN. “I’ve loved it. For me, I try not to put too much stress on myself. These teams have watched me throughout my whole career, especially last year. So from here it’s just trying to go in and have the best workout I can and try to put myself in the best position I possibly can.”"
Just a day after his visit with the Chicago Bulls, Jackson met with members of the New York Knicks organization, including head coach Jeff Hornacek and team president Phil Jackson.
He worked out in a group setting that included Louisville forward Jaylen Johnson, Wisconsin senior Nigel Hayes and Oregon’s All-American forward Dillon Brooks.
According to multiple NBA talent evaluators, teams have been impressed by Jackson’s improved shooting percentage, court vision and willingness to play within a system. His court awareness and cognitive approach to the game have also been lauded by onlookers.
Jackson’s progression from freshman to junior season was quite remarkable, given that his three-point shot became such a reliable and potent part of the North Carolina offense during the team’s championship run in 2017.
Not only that, but his ability to guard and disrupt play-makers on the defensive end of the court is something that scouts and evaluators have taken notice of. His wiry 6-foot-8 frame helps with that, though he continues his effort to put on more weight to compete at the next level.
It’s unknown at this time where Jackson will end up, but it’s unlikely that he’ll have to wait very long for his name to be called on draft night.
