Coveted graduate transfer Cam Johnson has been released from the University of Pittsburgh, immediately eligible to play for Tar Heels

Cam Johnson’s prayers were answered. My prayers were answered. All of Tar Heel nation had their prayers answered, too.

Cam Johnson will be wearing Carolina blue, argyles and custom Air Jordan’s for the next year or two. For the past three years, Johnson played basketball for his hometown Pittsburgh Panthers.

Previously, Pittsburgh refused to release Johnson because he desired to play for a conference rival, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Perhaps, the attention of this case prompted Pittsburgh to change their stance on this issue. Regardless of the reason, Johnson was granted his full release this week.

Johnson graduated after attending Pittsburgh for three years. As a graduate, he could play immediately for any team. Well, that team will be the NCAA’s defending national champions.

Exit Justin Jackson, Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks. Enter Johnson, who is versatile enough to play the shooting guard, small forward and power forward positions. The acquisition of Johnson solidifies the Tar Heels as a top team in the nation for the 2017-2018 season.

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams will have an array of lineups to utilize next season. He can play “small ball” or have his preferred traditional lineup.

During the 2016-17 season, Johnson had his best game of the year when he played against UNC. Although Pittsburgh lost, he finished the game with 24 points.

Next season, his role will be reversed. Johnson will play against his alma mater. The Tar Heels are hoping that he has another good game when the two teams face each other.
