Kevin Durant

It is still weird seeing Kevin Durant in a Warriors uniform, but imagine him a North Carolina uniform. But believe it or not, this was awfully close to happening.

Earlier this year, Durant appeared on The Bill Simmons Podcast, and talked about how he was set on UNC after a visit. (1:23:00 mark)

He also talked a little bit about how cool coach Roy Williams and his staff is.

Durant and Carolina would have been the perfect match. He would have been on the same team with Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson, somehow making a national championship contending team even better.

There is no disputing Durant’s ability to score, and that probably would have been enough to push the Heels over Georgetown in the Elite 8 that season.

And not only would he have been important for UNC on the court, he would have been great for the Tar Heels culture.

One thing Carolina does not have right now is a prime face in the NBA. Sure, they have the greatest of all-time in Michael Jordan, but to have somebody like Durant that would resonate with young people would help Williams recruit present day.

Even though it would have been for just one season, he would have easily been the best player Roy Williams would have put in the NBA.

Who knows, had he gone to Carolina, he might have a championship of some sorts by now.
