No. 3 – T.J. Yates, UNC (2007-10)

T.J. Yates is another stat-stuffer at the quarterback position for the Tar Heels. Yates has the most yards thrown by a freshman quarterback in a season (2,655 yards in 2007).

His freshman season propelled him to the next statistic since it set the tone for his college career.

Yates has the record for the most career passing yards (9,377) and the most career completions (795) for any UNC quarterback. He set the record for the third-most passing yards in a single game against Florida State in 2010 (439 yards).

In addition, Yates has the seventh-most touchdowns in a season (19 touchdowns in 2010), the third-highest career completion percentage (62.3%), fourth-highest QBR in a season (153.6 in 2008), ranks ninth-highest QBR in a season (145.5 in 2010), has the eighth-highest career QBR (131.72), ranks fourth in touchdowns (58), has the second-most completions in a season (282 in 2010) and has the seventh-most touchdowns in a season (19 in 2010).

Unfortunately, he has the most interceptions in a career by any UNC quarterback (46).

Despite this records, Yates is one of the best UNC quarterbacks ever and one of the best ACC quarterbacks to ever play this game.

Last season, T.J. Yates played quarterback for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Yates has played for the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons, also.
