No. 10 – Mike Thomas, UNC (1991-95)

Mike Thomas played quarterback four seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Thomas was also a punter at UNC during this time, also.

Occasionally, Thomas would serve as a punter and quarterback in the same game.

Thomas spent a great deal of his career backing up Jason Stanicek, who started at quarterback from 1991 to 1994. Despite spending most of his college career as a backup, Thomas ranks 10th in career completions (302) and ranks eighth in career passing yards with 4,368.

When Thomas got the opportunity to start at quarterback in 1995, he had his best season and a career season.

His 1995 season ranks ninth in UNC football history for most passing yards in one season (2,436 yards). In addition, Thomas set the record for most completions in a season in 1995, also (185 completions).

Thomas’s completion record was broken the following season by Chris Keldorf. Today, Thomas’s record ranks 11th in most completions in a season for any Tar Heel quarterback.

No. 10 – Matt Kupec, UNC (1976-79)

Matt Kupec ties with Jason Stanicek for most career wins by a starting quarterback (24).

Kupec ranks ninth in career passing yards (3,840), sixth in career passing touchdowns (33), ranks ninth in career passing yards (3,840) and ranks eighth in career completion percentage (30.5%).

Kupec has the eighth-most touchdowns in a season (18 in 1979).  His older brother, Chris Kupec, was a quarterback from 1972-1974.
