The North Carolina Tar Heels do not have the reputation as being a school that produces a lot of good quarterbacks. Defensive players and wide receivers? Yes. Quarterback school? No, rather not yet?

On Thursday, University of North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky was the overall number two pick and first quarterback selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.

This was quite an accomplishment for an institution that is known as a basketball school, which just won the 2017 national championships.

Despite UNC not having any big name quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL, past or present, they have been blessed with some good quarterbacks over the years.

Regardless of the length of their professional careers, these former Tar Heel play-callers’ college resumes’ speaks for themselves.

Marquise Williams, Bryn Renner, T.J. Yates, Darian Durant and Ronald Curry are several former Tar Heel quarterbacks who come to mind.

There are other former UNC quarterbacks who have not earned the same amount of recognition as these quarterbacks, although they deserve credit for their stake in the Tar Heels’ football program.

UNC has had success at the quarterback position in college.

However, the Tar Heels do not have an extensive history of sending quarterbacks to the NFL. This occurrence (or lack of) has lead to the notion that the University of North Carolina does not produce good quarterbacks.

This discussion gives rise to the top 10 Quarterbacks ever to play for the UNC Tar Heels, which serves as the basis of this article.
