2005-2006 North Carolina Tar Heels

This year does not hurt as bad, because the Heels won the previous year. But looking back on what could have been a repeat year still stinks.

Fresh off of his first national title, Roy Williams brought in arguably the best freshman class in his tenure at UNC. But it is not the freshmen that would have put this team over the top, it would have been the returning players.

Raymond Felton, Sean May, Rashad McCants (I know, I know), and Marvin Williams would have wreaked havoc on the entire country. Then, add in Tyler Hansbrough and Danny Green, and you easily have the best college team in recent memory.

This team would feature two Tar Heel legends in May and Hansbrough, two greats in Felton and Green, and the best freshman Roy has ever had in Marvin Williams. McCants would also have been a great compliment to this team.

The list of role players is incredible on this one. Reyshawn Terry, Marcus Ginyard, Bobby Fraser, Quentin Thomas, David Noel, and Wes Miller all would have come off the bench.

One word, WOW.

Take this team, and put it against a Duke team, that they beat in Cameron, and nearly beat in Chapel Hill, and they pound Duke twice. The national champions, Florida, who won the first of their two titles in a row, would have been a great matchup for the Heels.

There is no reason to think this Heels team could not win a second straight national title.

In reality, Carolina grabbed a three seed, and then lost in the second round to eventual Final Four team, and Cinderella, George Mason.

Past prediction: National Champions, and not even close.
