Power Forward: Tyler Hansbrough (’05-’09)

It wouldn’t really be a respectable list if I didn’t have Psycho T in the starting five.

Arguably the best college player in the last decade, Hansbrough led the Tar Heels in scoring and rebounding all four years he was in Chapel Hill.

A career average of 20.2 points and 8.6 rebounds, Hansbrough received almost every award possible:

  • National college player of the year (2008)
  • 3× Consensus first-team All-American (2007–2009)
  • Consensus second-team All-American (2006)
  • ACC Player of the Year (2008)
  • 4× First-team All-ACC (2006–2009)
  • ACC Rookie of the Year (2006)
  • No. 50 retired by the University of North Carolina

When it seemed like his career was over after a Final Four loss his junior year, he decided to come back to win the one thing he hadn’t in his career; a national championship. The Tar Heels steamrolled through the NCAA Tournament, winning every game by double digits.

After a year off, Hansbrough is back playing professional basketball with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA D-League.

This year, in 13 regular season games, he averaged 17.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, the Mad Ants lost in the first round despite Hansbrough averaging 25 points and 15 rebounds in 44 minutes a game.
