Keeping It Heel is going to continue to help you countdown the weeks until college football season by revealing our list of the top 25 UNC players for the upcoming season.

We’ve already previewed two players on the Tar Heels roster but now we have our first player on offense this week.

So let’s get started with player 23, a transfer wide receiver who needs to step up.

Position: Wide Receiver

Hometown: Ft Lauderdale, Florida

High School: University School

Last Season: Jordan Cunningham never really caught on as a transfer from Vanderbilt.

In two seasons at Vanderbilt, Cunningham had 15 catches for 123 yards and no scores.

After sitting out a year, Cunningham could never find his way into Mitch Trubisky’s view. He finished with just six catches for 82 yards and no scores in seven games.

His best game came in the bowl loss to Stanford. It was the only time he caught more than one ball in a single game. He finished the game with two receptions.

Why he might move up this list: North Carolina lost a ton of talent at the wide receiver position. Someone has to catch the ball at UNC this year, why not Cunningham?

At 6-foot-2 Cunningham provides a lot of size and could be a major weapon in Larry Fedora’s spread offense. He once had seven catches in a game against Austin Peay when he was at Vanderbilt, so the talent is there.

Why he might move down this list: Despite the position having lost a lot of talent, there is still a lot of talent there. UNC added a top receiver in the recruiting class in JT Cauthen.

In the spring game, sophomore Juval Mollette had a huge game. He finished with seven catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns. Mollette was injured coming to UNC last year and never got going.

Additionally,Cunningham couldn’t find playing time last year when Mack Hollins went down with an injury. he finished third in returning receivers by a wide margin behind the other two returnees.

Prediction: Cunningham improves upon the end of the season and is a nice complimentary piece to a very potent Tar Heels passing attack.

He finishes the season with 20 catches for 225 yards and a touchdown.
