Roy Williams talks Final Four, suit coats and retirement on The Dan Patrick Show

On Tuesday, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams appeared on The Dan Patrick Show as part of his Final Four media tour.

The Hall-of-Fame coach and the longtime sportscaster talked about a variety of topics including Williams’ choice in suit coats, his timeline for retirement and how he has never watched the 2016 National Championship.

Patrick, known for asking a variety of questions not limited to the topic of sports, inquired Williams about the number of suit coats he owns and what kind of rotation he is on for the NCAA Tournament.

"“My freshman year in college I bought my first suit that I’d ever owned in my life, so since then I’ve added a few but i do not still have that one. . . I would have to say over a hundred."

Williams went on to explain that he had packed just two sport coats for the Final Four after throwing out the coat that he wore in the Tar Heels’ ACC Tournament loss to Duke.

Patrick then asked Williams about retirement and if he had given it any thought, particularly if he were to win a national championship this season.

"“. . . My wife, she would have been thrilled if I’d have quit in ’09 after we won our second one. She would have thought would’ve been a great time. . . I have not had the thought.”"

Patrick asked how many times he’d replayed the 2016 National Championship game and Williams explained how he’d only seen the final shot once, but only because he couldn’t get the TV channel changed quickly enough.

"“Never watched the game. Never. And the only reason I’ve seen the last play over again is the only channel on my TV I think is ESPN and the Golf Channel. It doesn’t seem to find any other channels. But one day, I was watching it and they replayed the thing and I couldn’t get up and cut the sucker off fast enough.”"
