North Carolina will meet Oregon on Saturday, April 1st in the Final Four

On Sunday evening, the Tar Heels faced the Kentucky Wildcats in a rematch of what many considered to be college basketball’s best game of the season.

Other than bragging rights and months-worth of conjecture, the first meeting had little impact on anything and absolutely no consequence on the rest of the season.

Sunday’s Elite 8 matchup in Memphis, though, had all the implications in the world for each of the two blue blood programs involved.

On one side, legends were born and names were etched into history. And the other side experienced a heartbreaking, last-second loss that will be remembered for years to come.

While Kentucky is relegated to waiting for next season to roll around, North Carolina is preparing for a national semifinal game against the Oregon Ducks to determine one-half of this year’s national championship matchup.

The Tar Heels haven’t had an easy path to the Final Four after highly competitive games against Arkansas and Kentucky that went down to the wire.

The same can be said for Oregon who had tough contests against Rhode Island and Michigan before beating a struggling Kansas Jayhawks squad.

Despite each team’s path to the Final Four, the slates are clean and each team has an opportunity to play on college basketball’s biggest stage on Monday night.

And at 8:49 ET on Saturday, April 1st on CBS, we’ll watch the South Region’s top seed face off against the Midwest Region’s No. 3 seed for the right to play the winner of the Gonzaga and South Carolina game to be played just two hours earlier.

The Tar Heels opened up the week as Vegas’ odd-on favorite to win the title, but if this year’s tournament has shown us anything, it’s to take nothing for granted.
