NCAA Tournament: Sweet Sixteen Power Rankings
Teams 11 and 12
Sweet Sixteen Appearance: Sixth (First since 2016)
Head Coach: Dana Altman, 185-69 (Seventh Season)
Top Players: F Dillon Brooks: 16.4 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.1 spg (Pac 12 Player of the Year); F Jordan Bell: 10.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.1 bpg (Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year); G Tyler Dorsey: 14 ppg, 3.4 rpg (Pac 12 Tournament Team).
How they got here: Oregon opened the first round by beating 14-seed Iona 93-77. They followed that up with a 75-72 victory over 11-seed Rhode Island in the second round.
Best Case Scenario: Dillon Brooks continues to put on his own version of the Buddy Hield Show. After hitting a three-pointer to end Michigan’s magical run, the junior forward scores 60 as the Ducks shut down Kansas.
In Phoenix, they run into the length and size of North Carolina. Despite a valiant effort from Brooks, the loss of Boucher finally becomes an issue as the Ducks fall to the Tar Heels in the Final Four.
Sweet Sixteen Appearance: 34th (First since 2015)
Head Coach: Steve Alford, 96-44 (Fourth Season)
Top Players: G Lonzo Ball: 14.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 7.6 apg (Pac 12 Freshmen of the Year); F TJ Leaf: 16.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg (Pac 12 First team); G Bryce Alford: 15.6 ppg, 2.5 apg (Pac 12 First Team).
How they got here: UCLA opened the first round by beating 14-seed Kent State 97-80. They followed that up with a 79-67 victory over 6-seed Cincinnati in the second round.
Best Case Scenario: Lonzo Ball listens to his dad and becomes Steph Curry. The Bruins show that beating Kentucky at Rupp wasn’t a fluke by doing it again in Memphis. However, just like Steph Curry, Ball’s team can’t get past the Elite 8, falling just short to UNC.
