Tyler Zeller – 2012 Round of 16 vs. Ohio

The 2011-12 season was one to remember. Tyler Zeller was the 2012 ACC Player of the Year. He was a first-team All-ACC player, also.

In this matchup against Ohio, North Carolina went to overtime to keep their championship hopes alive. UNC point guard Kendall Marshall did not play in this game due to a broken wrist against Creighton in the Round of 32.

Zeller put the Tar Heels on his back and delivered. He led UNC to a 73-65 victory in overtime. He finished the game with 20 points and 22 rebounds.

Al Wood – 1981 National Semifinal vs. Virginia

Al Wood was an All-American in 1981. He led the Tar Heels to the 1981 Final Four where they faced ACC rival Virginia for a third time that season.

Wood tied Lennie Rosenbluth’s record for most points in an NCAA Tournament game with 39 points. North Carolina won the game 78-65.

Wood was 14-of-19 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line. He had 10 rebounds, also.

Wood’s performance was a major reason why UNC won this game. His dominant performance earned the Tar Heels a trip to the 1981 title game.
