Luke Kennard was the best player on Duke’s roster this season. Kennard was a unanimous honoree for first-team All-ACC, due to receiving the most votes in the ACC conference.

His all-conference campaign was almost foreshadowed by the shenanigans of fellow Blue Devil Grayson Allen, who was the preseason pick for ACC Player of the Year.

Kennard led Duke in scoring (20.1 points per game), minutes played (35.6), second in assists (2.5 assists per game) and third in rebounds (5.3 rebounds per game). He shot 50.4% field goal percentage, 84.7% free throw percentage and 45% three-point percentage.

Despite constant injuries across Duke’s roster, Kennard was the one constant throughout the season. Kennard scored double-figures in every game except one (nine points against Boston College on January 7, 2017).

He scored more than 30 points in three games this season. His best game of the season came against Wake Forest when he hit the game-winning shot to secure an 85-83 victory.

Kennard finished the game with 34 points (made 6-of-6 three-point field goals, made 11-of-14 field goals, 6-of-10 free throws), four rebounds and four assists.

The sophomore is one of the best offensive scorers in the country. He can go off for 20 or 30 points any given game. If you give him a little bit of space, he will make you regret not defending him closely.

Expect a big ACC tournament from Kennard.

He emerged as Duke’s leader on the court and carried himself like a leader throughout the season. The sad thing for the rest of the ACC is that Kennard is a sophomore with a lot of basketball left in him.
