Zion Williamson making headlines with Roy Williams in attendance

Zion Williamson isn’t the top prospect in the class of 2018, but you’d have a hard time convincing anyone of it at this point.

The 16-year-old high school junior is everywhere these days, figuratively speaking, of course.

On Wednesday night he was on ESPN’s SportsCenter in the first five minutes of the program. For those who aren’t aware, that’s a pretty big deal. Not only that, but it was a segment dedicated solely to him, which is an even bigger deal.

He’s all over YouTube and goes viral with a new video at least twice a week. You could spend hours just watching the recent content about him that’s been published on the popular media website.

He was given the grandest of compliments when Grammy Award winning hip hop artist Drake posted a photo on Instagram wearing a custom-made Zion Williamson jersey.

And on Tuesday night, he was again playing in front of a sellout crowd that was salivating to see more of his dynamic highlight reel dunks.

One of those spectators just happened to be North Carolina head coach Roy Williams, who got to witness yet another spectacular display of dunks and athleticism from the five-star prospect.

In total, Williamson scored 37 points and pulled down eight rebounds in what was a statistically average night for the junior phenom.

According to MaxPreps, the high school standout is averaging 36.5 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, three steals and 2.6 blocks per game.

Williams and the UNC coaching staff have made Williamson their top priority in the 2018 class, taking multiple trips to see the 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward play.

Five trips, actually. Williams has already used five of the seven trips that the NCAA allows for.

Williamson, though, will be on hand in Chapel Hill on March 4th when the Tar Heels wrap up their conference season against Duke. He’ll be there in an unofficial capacity, much like recent trips that he’s taken to Kentucky, South Carolina and Wofford.

Yes, Wofford.

Williamson insists that his recruitment is wide open and that even Wofford, the school that resides in his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina, has a chance.

He currently holds offers from nearly 30 schools including Arizona, Baylor, Clemson, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, UCLA and Virginia, among others.
