Infield Play

According to the Tar Heel baseball yearbook, Brian Miller has made the full-time move to center field this season. Miller has primarily played first base, but saw sometime in the outfield also.

With that switch coming, it seems as if Zack Gahagan will move into the first base starting role. Gahagan has shown flashes of greatness at the plate in his Tar Heel career. Just last season, Gahagan batted .297, with five homers, and driving in 34 runs.

He also had a solid on-base percentage of .391. Gahagan also notched a .946 fielding percentage last year.

Over at second base seems to be a competition. Eli Sutherland graduated this past season, and it opened up a hole at second. Utah Jones seems to be the consensus to replace Sutherland. Jones, a sophomore from Boone, can switch hit at the plate, and is touted as a great fielder for the Diamond Heels.

Kyle Datres will handle third base this season for the Heels.

He has already been named the opening day starter, and will be expected to hold down the hot corner. At the plate, Datres struggled last season. He only hit .250, but his on- base percentage was not too bad, at .384.

Datres is a decent option in the field. He was at .925 fielding percentage during the season last year.

Logan Warmoth is the head of the infield at shortstop. Warmoth, a junior from Orlando, will be heavily relied on at the plate, and in the field. D1 Baseball ranked as the fifth best shortstop in college baseball in their rankings.

At the plate, Warmoth is a beast. He hit .337 last season, with a OBP of .402. In the field, he has a fielding percentage of .948, with 11 errors last season.
