For the second consecutive season, the Heels could be breaking in a new QB

Mitch Trubisky, Marquise Williams, Bryn Renner and TJ Yates. The Heels have been blessed with great quarterbacks in recent years, but could soon be looking for the next one in line.

Mitch Trubisky is coming off one of the best statistical seasons in North Carolina football history. While the team struggled to gain national recognition like last year, Trubisky has been the center of NFL draft talk for the last few weeks. The junior quarterback busted onto the national scene against Pittsburgh when he was 35-of-46, for 453 yards, and five touchdowns; one of which was the game-winner.

Many discussions have rumbled throughout Chapel Hill about the possibility of Trubisky leaving for the NFL Draft after this season. He’d be the first Tar Heel QB drafted since 2011 when T.J. Yates was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round.

No UNC quarterback has ever been drafted in the first round, and Trubisky will likely be the first. Mock drafts project Trubisky going anywhere from first to fifteenth.

With that in mind, UNC fans have already begun to wonder who will fill the quarterback position next season. From Marquise Williams last season to Trubisky this season, the Tar Heels were able to transition smoothly. That may not be the case next season, though.

The Carolina offense has been one of the most high-powered offenses in the country over the last few seasons. The next quarterback for the Heels will have big shoes to fill, no matter when Trubisky goes to the NFL.

The list of potential successors isn’t extremely long, but we’ve got a few ideas on where the Tar Heels may look for their next starting quarterback.
