Five-star power forward P.J. Washington picks Kentucky

The Tar Heels lost the P.J. Washington sweepstakes to the Wildcats on Thursday evening when the five-star power forward chose Kentucky over UNC and UNLV.

Desperate for big men in the class of 2017 and having already lost Garrison Brooks to Mississippi State on Wednesday, the Tar Heels again came up short on the recruiting trail.

Washington had long been considered a Kentucky lean, and particularly so after visiting UK’s campus twice since September.

Kentucky also got a commitment on Thursday from 6-foot-11 Nick Richards, a five-star center out of Manhasset, New York.

Having lost out on two recruits in as many days, the Tar Heels will have to double down on 2017 top-20 small forwards Kevin Knox and Jarred Vanderbilt. Both however, are considered favorites to commit to schools not named North Carolina.
