Yes, North Carolina lost Shakeel Rashad and Jeff Schoettmer to the NFL. Despite their departures, Nazair Jones heads the defensive line as a junior. In the secondary, all-conference defensive backs Des Lawrence and M.J. Stewart are back to solidify the Tar Heels’ secondary.

The linebacker corps will have some new faces. However, do not expect the quality of play to decline. Sophomore Andre’ Smith and freshman Jonathan Smith are two names you should get accustomed to knowing.

Although they are not related, this tandem is poised to pick up where Rashad and Schoettmer left. Both Smiths are quick linebackers who have the innate ability to close in on running backs and wide receivers, in addition to dropping back into coverage and anticipating the run.

Although they haven’t been here for years, don’t call it a comeback!
