Reason No. 2 – Mitch Trubisky

Over the last two seasons, Trubisky has completed 82-of-125 passes as a backup behind Marquise Williams. That included going 40-of-47 in the 2015 season.

Williams was a superb quarterback and broke records at UNC. He finished in third place for the 2015 ACC Player of the Year Award. In addition, he finished second place for the 2015 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Williams’ departure to the NFL left big shoes for Trubisky to fill. You could easily assume that North Carolina’s offense disguises as a turnkey system, meaning that anyone can succeed at quarterback. However, this type of sentiment is untrue.

Trubisky represents a dual threat like Williams. He can run the ball and throw it; well. The only difference between the two players is their complexion and jersey numbers. Trubisky will pick up from where Williams left off. Keep in mind that Trubisky played in several games last season.

In 2015, UNC defeated Delaware 41-14. In this game, Trubisky completed 17-of-20 passes for 312 yards with four touchdowns. With this performance, Trubisky set a single-game UNC record with a pass efficiency rating of 282.

In addition, this performance earned him the ACC Offensive Back of the Week honor.

His athleticism parallels Williams. His arm strength may be just as good as Williams or better. Of course, time will tell and numbers don’t lie. However, do not say that you were not forewarned of how good Trubisky is.

UNC’s offense will add onto last year’s highlight reel, with Trubisky as their maestro.
