Everyone remembers last year’s tournament run. The 6th seeded Tar Heels faced 11th seeded Providence in the first round and won by just two points, but couldn’t get past Iowa State in the Round of 32. UNC had an up and down year, so this kind of early tournament exit wasn’t completely out of the blue, but it was still a painful loss and one of UNC’s least productive tournament trips in the Roy Williams era.
It remains to be seen how much of a building block the 2014 NCAA Tournament loss was on this year’s team. The 2015 Tar Heels have a majority of the players back from that team last year, but the team seems to be making some of the same mistakes and seems to have some of the same mental lapses that the 2014 team had.
2014 wasn’t Roy’s best job with his teams in the NCAA Tournament.
