#5: 78-74 win vs. Florida State

The Tar Heels played a very close game against Florida State in Chapel Hill on January 24. Florida State freshman, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, scored a school freshman record 35 points on 14-for-26 shooting from the floor. Rathan-Mayes managed to hit three 3-pointers in the last minute of the game, which is what really made the game peak at the end.

UNC’s Brice Johnson countered that performance with an outstanding performance of his own, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 boards for the Tar Heels. Johnson’s scoring only aided the other Tar Heel starters in their own offensive endeavors, as all but J.P. Tokoto (nine points) scored in double digits, including Marcus Paige’s 19 points.
