Bigger than basketball

This rivalry is bigger than just basketball. The Victory Bell is given each year to the winning school of the football matchup between the two schools. The Victory Bell is currently Carolina blue after the Heels went into Wallace Wade back in November and absolutely walloped Duke on their home field.

You may have heard about an incident after the game, when the Heels got in trouble for damaging the Blue Devils’ locker room with spray paint. A lot of Tar Heel fans probably looked the other way because UNC won. If UNC had done that damage after a loss it would have been a different story. Plus, have you seen Duke’s football facilities? It’s not like they trashed. the Mona Lisa or anything. (I’m only joking. Destroying property is bad).

The two teams compete in lots of varsity sports and the competition is fierce every single time Duke faces off against UNC, not just when the basketball teams meet.
